Italy Emerges as Top Summer Travel Spot for Israelis

Italy has become a leading destination for Israeli tourists this summer, ranking third in popularity for outbound travelers in July, according to Mako. Approximately 180,000 Israelis flew to Italy in July, placing it behind only Greece and Cyprus, and ahead of countries like the UAE, the United States, Georgia, and France.

Tamar Gershon, CEO of Gulliver, noted that Italy is a beloved destination for Israelis, offering a variety of experiences beyond the traditional tourist hubs of Rome and Milan. Direct flights from Tel Aviv now serve 11 Italian cities, including Bologna, Verona, Venice, Naples, and Cagliari in Sardinia. Some routes, particularly to regions like Puglia, Sicily, and Sardinia, are seasonal or operate on specific days, allowing for more diverse travel options.

Each Italian region offers unique attractions. Bari serves as a gateway to Puglia's towns like Alberobello and Polignano a Mare, and houses the Basilica of Saint Nicholas. Bologna is known for its culinary traditions, its ancient university, and its extensive porticoes. Cagliari in Sardinia provides access to historical sites and pristine beaches, while Catania in Sicily is a base for exploring baroque architecture and Mount Etna. Naples offers proximity to Pompeii, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast, and Venice can be explored through its quieter districts and nearby islands like Murano and Burano. Turin is noted for its palaces and chocolate, and Genoa for its palaces, pesto, and proximity to Cinque Terre.
