Genetic Testing Firm Gamidor Reports Error in BRCA1 Gene Analysis

Gamidor, a genetic testing company, has identified a malfunction in its testing kit used to detect mutations in the BRCA1 gene. The error potentially led to incorrect negative results for some individuals tested. Following the discovery, Gamidor, in collaboration with genetic institutes and laboratories, reviewed over 90,000 tests conducted with the faulty kit.

Approximately 100 samples have been flagged as potentially having received a false negative result. Gamidor has since corrected the technical issue with its testing kit. In the coming days, the genetic institutes and laboratories that used the defective kit will contact the affected individuals. Those with potentially incorrect negative results may be asked to provide an additional blood sample.

Gamidor advises that individuals who underwent the BRCA1 gene test do not need to contact the testing facility, as proactive outreach will be made to those potentially impacted by the error. The BRCA1 gene test, also known as a Nanochip test, screens for common genetic variations and mutations. The Ministry of Health will provide further updates if necessary.
