BRCA Test Flaw May Affect 100 Israeli Samples
The Israeli Ministry of Health has announced a malfunction in a testing kit manufactured by Gemidor, used for detecting BRCA1 gene mutations. This malfunction has raised concerns about potentially incorrect negative results in approximately 100 samples.
In total, over 90,000 tests were conducted using the affected kit. Following the identification of the issue, all results were re-examined. Gemidor, in collaboration with genetic institutes and laboratories, identified 100 samples where a false negative result is suspected. The company has since rectified the problem with the kit.
Genetic institutes and laboratories will contact individuals whose samples are suspected of yielding incorrect results in the coming days. They may be asked to provide an additional blood sample if necessary. The Ministry of Health emphasized that individuals do not need to contact the labs themselves, as proactive outreach will be conducted for those potentially affected.
