Retired General Amir Avivi Joins Netanyahu's Likud Party

Retired Brigadier General Amir Avivi, founder of the "Bithonistim" movement and a commentator on Channel 14's "HaPatriotim" program, is set to join the Likud party's list for the upcoming Knesset elections. The "Bithonistim" movement, which Avivi founded, will also join the Likud party. Avivi had a distinguished career in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), holding senior positions such as Deputy Inspector General of the Defense Establishment, Head of the Chief of Staff's Bureau, Deputy Commander of the Gaza Division, Commander of the Sagi Brigade, Commander of the 605th Battalion, and Commander of the Combat Engineering School. He reached the rank of Brigadier General.

Avivi, who was born in Jerusalem, spent his childhood abroad due to his father's diplomatic postings. He returned to Israel at 18 to enlist in the IDF's Combat Engineering Corps as a lone soldier. His political alignment with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stems from a shared security doctrine emphasizing decisiveness, initiative, and Israel's security independence. The Likud party welcomed Avivi, stating, "Dear Amir, good luck!".

Avivi's move signifies a transition from his activism with the "Bithonistim" and his media appearances to a direct role in national politics within the Likud framework.
