Argentina to Sue Israeli Energy Firm Over Falklands Oil Drilling
Argentina's government announced it will file a criminal complaint against Israeli energy company Navitas Petroleum, its subsidiaries, and senior executives. The complaint alleges illegal activity in the Falkland Islands with British approval. The move follows President Javier Milei's declaration of sanctions against companies drilling for oil and gas in the disputed territory.
Foreign Minister Pablo Cairano will submit the complaint against Navitas and its partners, accusing them of violating Argentine law by holding licenses issued by the United Kingdom. Navitas Petroleum, which is traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, holds a 65% stake in the Sea Lion oil project in the northern basin of the islands.
President Milei also shared a post on X from Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Ben-Gvir had urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to recognize Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and impose sanctions on Britain due to its planned actions against Israel.
