Argentina Files Criminal Complaint Against Israeli Firm Navitas Petroleum Over Falklands Oil Drilling
Argentina's government announced it will file a criminal complaint against Israeli energy company Navitas Petroleum, its subsidiaries, and senior executives. The complaint alleges illegal oil and gas activities in the Falkland Islands, a territory Buenos Aires claims sovereignty over.
According to the office of President Javier Milei, the companies violated Argentine law by operating under licenses granted by the United Kingdom in the northern basin of the islands. Navitas Petroleum, which is traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, operates the Sea Lion oil project and holds a 65% stake in it.
The Argentine government's move escalates a long-standing dispute over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands, which are administered by the UK but claimed by Argentina.
