Audi Unveils New A2 e-tron Electric Hatchback with Retro Design
Audi has revealed the new A2 e-tron, an all-electric hatchback that draws inspiration from the original A2 model launched in 1999. While the original A2 was noted for its unconventional design, the new electric version features a modern interpretation with a distinctive front grille, slim daytime running lights, and L-shaped air intakes. The profile echoes the original's shape, with flared wheel arches and a gloss-black finish creating a floating roof effect, complemented by 18- to 20-inch wheels. The rear boasts a split rear window and narrow taillights.
In terms of dimensions, the A2 e-tron is slightly shorter and narrower than the current Audi A3, measuring 4.32 meters long and 1.79 meters wide. However, it is significantly taller by 14.2 cm, has a longer wheelbase by 13.5 cm, and offers a larger trunk capacity of 396 liters. The interior combines a high-tech feel with a cozy ambiance, featuring an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The cabin also includes new gear and turn signal stalks, electronic door releases, and fabric-covered dashboard and door panels reminiscent of 1990s armchairs. A stepped center console houses ventilated wireless charging pads with magnetic holders for phones.
The A2 e-tron will offer advanced technology, including surround-view cameras, automated parking that remembers up to five maneuvers with remote app control, optional Matrix LED lighting with selectable daytime running light signatures, a 1.6 square meter panoramic roof, and a head-up display with augmented reality. Audio options include an 8-speaker system or a 14-speaker Sonos system, with adaptive suspension also available. The vehicle incorporates a Fidlock system for securing various items using magnets and mechanical locks. The comprehensive safety suite includes adaptive cruise control that can recognize and stop for red lights, and a passenger protection system that closes windows and tightens seatbelts before a potential collision.
Built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, the A2 e-tron will be available with four powertrain options. The entry-level 125 kW version offers rear-wheel drive, 170 hp, a 52 kWh battery, a range of 423 km, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.8 seconds. It supports 100 kW fast charging, reaching 80% in 24 minutes. The 140 kW model provides 190 hp, a 61 kWh battery, a range of 515 km, and accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds, with 105 kW fast charging taking 26 minutes. The most powerful rear-wheel-drive variant is the 170 kW, delivering 231 hp, a larger 84 kWh battery, a range of 646 km, and 183 kW fast charging in 29 minutes. The top-tier 240 kW model boasts 326 hp, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, with the same battery and charging capabilities as the 170 kW version but a slightly shorter range of 630 km.
Champion Motors, the Audi importer in Israel, has announced that the A2 e-tron is expected to arrive in mid-2027.
