Audi Unveils New Electric A2 with Retro Design and Modern Tech
Audi has revealed a new, compact electric vehicle, the A2 e-tron, drawing design inspiration from the original A2 model launched in 1999. The new A2 e-tron is expected to arrive in Israel by mid-2027, with details on its specifications and range now available.
The exterior design blends retro cues with modern aesthetics. It features a distinctive front grille, slim daytime running lights, and L-shaped air intakes. The profile echoes the original A2 with flared wheel arches and a gloss-black finish creating a 'floating roof' effect. Notable design elements include flush door handles and a split rear window, complemented by narrow taillights. Dimensionally, the A2 e-tron is slightly shorter and narrower than the A3 but taller, with a longer wheelbase and a larger trunk capacity of 396 liters.
Inside, the A2 e-tron offers a combination of technological and comfortable features. It includes a curved display integrating an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment screen. The interior also features new gear selector and turn signal stalks, electronic door releases, and dashboard and door paneling reminiscent of 1990s upholstery. Advanced technology includes surround-view cameras, automatic parking assistance, optional matrix LED lighting, a panoramic glass roof, a head-up display with augmented reality, and upgraded sound systems. The vehicle also incorporates a Fidlock system for securing various items.
The A2 e-tron is built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform and will be offered with four powertrain options. The entry-level 125 kW version has rear-wheel drive, producing 170 horsepower, a 0-100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds, and a 52 kWh battery offering a range of 423 km. Higher trims include 140 kW (190 hp) with a 61 kWh battery and 515 km range, and a 170 kW (231 hp) rear-wheel-drive model with an 84 kWh battery providing a range of 646 km. The top-tier 240 kW version boasts 326 horsepower, a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds, and a range of 630 km, sharing battery and charging specifications with the 170 kW model. Fast charging capabilities vary by model, with times ranging from 24 to 29 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge.
