Audi Unveils New Electric A2 e-tron with Retro-Inspired Design
Audi has revealed a new, compact electric vehicle, the A2 e-tron, drawing design inspiration from the original A2 model launched in 1999. The new A2 e-tron is expected to arrive in Israel in mid-2027, with details on its specifications and range now being released.
The exterior design blends retro cues with modern aesthetics. The front features a distinctive rectangular grille with grooved finishes and a prominent Audi logo. Slim daytime running lights and L-shaped air intakes give the car a unique front fascia. The profile echoes the original A2 with flared wheel arches and a gloss-black finish on the rear side window, creating a 'floating roof' effect. It offers wheel sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches, and the rear sports a split rear window, complemented by narrow taillights and a gloss-black lower bumper.
Dimensionally, the A2 e-tron is slightly shorter and narrower than the Audi A3 but is taller, with a longer wheelbase and a larger trunk capacity of 396 liters. The interior combines a technological feel with a comfortable ambiance, featuring a curved screen integrating an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch infotainment display. It includes new gear and indicator stalks seen in the Q3, electronic door releases, and a dashboard covered in fabric reminiscent of 1990s upholstery. A stepped center console offers ventilated wireless charging pads with magnetic holders for phones.
Technological features include surround-view cameras, automatic parking that remembers up to five maneuvers with remote app control, optional matrix LED lighting with selectable daytime running light signatures, a 1.6 square meter panoramic roof, and a head-up display with augmented reality. Audi offers upgraded sound systems, with an optional 14-speaker Sonos system, and adaptive suspension. The vehicle also incorporates the manufacturer's advanced safety suite, including adaptive cruise control that recognizes red lights and stops accordingly, and a passenger protection system that can close windows and tighten seatbelts before a collision.
The A2 e-tron is built on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform and will be available with four powertrain options. The entry-level 125 kW rear-wheel-drive model offers 170 hp, a 0-100 km/h time of 8.8 seconds, and a 52 kWh battery providing a range of 423 km. Faster charging at 100 kW takes 24 minutes for a 10-80% charge. Higher trims include 140 kW (190 hp) and 170 kW (231 hp) rear-wheel-drive versions with larger batteries (61 kWh and 84 kWh respectively) offering ranges up to 646 km and faster charging capabilities. The top-tier 240 kW model boasts 326 hp, a 0-100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds, and a range of 630 km, with similar fast-charging speeds to the 170 kW version.
