Omri Casspi Set to Become Billionaire Through Tech Investments

Former NBA player Omri Casspi, once the first Israeli to play in the league, is on track to become a billionaire following remarkable success in the technology investment sector. Casspi earned approximately $18 million during his decade-long NBA career, playing for seven teams and winning a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2017. However, his post-retirement ventures have proven far more lucrative.

Casspi founded the venture capital fund "Swish Ventures," which focuses on early-stage startups in the cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) fields. The fund has garnered significant attention in the US for its bold investment strategy, often issuing checks of around $20 million to young companies. Casspi explained his approach, stating, "I know $20 million is a large check for early stages, but I want to find the best opportunities. I usually invest a higher than average amount."

Despite being operational for less than two years, Swish Ventures has achieved extraordinary returns. A prime example is its investment in the startup "Cognition," which was valued at $150 million when Casspi invested and has since surged to $26 billion. Another significant success is "Upwind Security," initially valued at $65 million at the time of investment and now worth approximately $3 billion.

Currently, Casspi's fund manages assets estimated at $800 million. Out of roughly 20 companies in its portfolio, at least eight have achieved "unicorn" status, a valuation of $1 billion or more. American sports and financial media have expressed admiration for Casspi's transition, highlighting his business acumen and courage in achieving greater success off the court than on it.
