Omri Casspi Transitions from NBA Star to Billionaire Tech Investor

Former Israeli NBA player Omri Casspi, who earned approximately $18 million during his decade-long career in the league, is on track to become a billionaire following significant success in the tech and investment sectors. Casspi, the first Israeli to play in the NBA, joined seven different teams and won a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2017.

After retiring from basketball, Casspi founded the venture capital fund "Swish Ventures," which focuses on early-stage startups in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The fund has gained attention for its substantial investments, with Casspi often writing checks around $20 million, a figure he acknowledges is large for early-stage companies but necessary to secure top opportunities.

Despite being in operation for less than two years, Swish Ventures has achieved remarkable returns. A notable success is the investment in the startup "Cognition," which was valued at $150 million when Casspi invested and has since surged to $26 billion. Another significant investment, "Upwind Security," has grown from a $65 million valuation to approximately $3 billion.

Currently, Casspi's fund manages an estimated $800 million in assets. Out of the roughly 20 companies in its portfolio, eight have achieved "unicorn" status, a valuation of over $1 billion. American sports and financial outlets have expressed admiration for Casspi's impressive career transition, highlighting his business acumen and bold investment strategies as keys to his success beyond the basketball court.
