Kobi Refua Departs Bani Eilat After One Match Amidst Ambitious Project

Kobi Refua has concluded his tenure as the professional manager for the Israeli Liga Bet (fourth tier) club Bani Eilat, just one week after the season's opening match. Refua, who had signed a lucrative contract reportedly worth NIS 400,000 annually, including a car, fuel card, and hotel accommodation, was brought in to lead the team to higher leagues. He had recruited several notable players for Liga Bet, including Gidi Kanyuk, Gil Yitzhak, and Ofek Fishler, with the explicit goal of promotion.

Despite winning the first game of the season, logistical challenges and the physical distance of traveling to Eilat reportedly led Refua to request an early departure from his active role. The club has stated that Refua will transition to a professional advisor position, continuing to support the team with his expertise. Meir Cohen will remain as the team's coach, and the recruited star players are expected to stay with the club.

Bani Eilat's management, led by Natalie Vaturi, expressed regret over Refua's departure from his active role but respected his decision, citing family considerations and the difficulties of daily involvement in Eilat. Vaturi praised Refua as a top-tier professional and expressed hope for his continued contribution as an advisor. Refua himself stated his commitment to the club, emphasizing that he is not leaving entirely and will continue to support the team and its management, Dudu and Natalie, to achieve their goals.
