Kobi Refua Departs as Bnei Eilat Professional Manager After One Match

Kobi Refua has concluded his tenure as the professional manager for Bnei Eilat, a club he joined with significant investment and ambitious goals. Refua, who signed a lucrative three-year contract reportedly worth NIS 400,000 annually, including a car, fuel card, and hotel accommodation, has stepped down after just one league match. The team secured a victory in the opening round of Liga Bet (the fourth tier of Israeli football), but logistical challenges and the long travel distances to Eilat prompted Refua's departure.

Refua was central to a "million-shekel project" aimed at elevating Eilat to the top leagues in Israel. He had recruited several high-profile players for Liga Bet standards, including Gidi Kanyuk, Gil Yitzhak, and Ofek Fishler. Despite these efforts and the initial win, Refua cited the "travel difficulties" as the primary reason for his resignation.

Following Refua's exit, coach Meir Cohen will continue to manage the team in Liga Bet, with the recruited star players remaining with the club. Bnei Eilat announced that Refua will transition to a role as a professional consultant for the club, continuing to support their objectives. Club management, including Natalie Vaturi, expressed understanding and respect for Refua's decision, acknowledging the "family consideration" and the "not simple challenge" of daily involvement in Eilat.

Refua himself stated his commitment to the club, emphasizing that he is not leaving entirely and will continue to assist in achieving the team's goals. He praised the "amazing people" he met at Bnei Eilat and the "warm community" in the city, highlighting the infrastructure and "splendid" foundation built during his brief tenure.
