Democratic Front Faces Crisis Over Candidate Amid Internal Dispute

Jaafar Faraj, a candidate for the second seat on the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality's electoral list, has reaffirmed his commitment to run, despite the party's earlier announcement that he had withdrawn his candidacy. Faraj, who was recently discharged from the hospital, stated that the decision to confirm or withdraw his candidacy rests with the General Council that elected him. He conveyed this in a message posted after leaving the hospital, thanking those who had contacted him and apologizing for his recent unavailability.

The party is facing a critical juncture as its General Council is scheduled to convene on Monday evening in Shfaramr to decide the fate of the second seat. According to Maher Abed, Secretary of the Nazareth Front, the meeting will either confirm Faraj's candidacy or elect an alternative.

The internal conflict has created a tense atmosphere, with supporters of Faraj gathering outside a recent meeting in Shfaramr. They held up his pictures and chanted protests against the party's initial announcement of his withdrawal, demanding his reinstatement.

Dr. Hanna Sweid, a leader within the Democratic Front, former Knesset member, and head of the Arab Center for Alternative Planning, commented on the escalating crisis facing the party.
