Democratic Front Holds Urgent Meeting After Candidate's Withdrawal
The Democratic Front announced an urgent meeting of its secretariat and the Communist Party on Saturday in Shfaram to elect a new candidate for the second seat on their list, replacing Jaafar Farah. Farah announced his withdrawal from the candidacy on Friday.
In parallel, protesters called for participation in a demonstration at noon on Saturday to reject Farah's decision and affirm the public's right to choose their representatives. The protest was organized by Ashams Radio.
According to a statement from the Front's secretary, Amjad Shbeita, Farah's withdrawal was a move of national and party responsibility, coordinated with party bodies and leadership figures. The statement explained that the decision aims to thwart attempts to undermine the joint list by exploiting allegations made against Farah, which he has fully denied.
Farah is a prominent figure in political and social activism. His candidacy had garnered significant attention. However, recent developments and allegations against him led to internal discussions, culminating in his withdrawal to preserve unity and prevent political exploitation that could harm the joint list.
