Major Israeli Investment Platform Suffers Technical Glitch, Erasing Client Balances
Many investors with Meitav Trade, one of Israel's largest investment firms, were alarmed Sunday morning to find their account balances and portfolio values displayed as zero. The issue, attributed to a data update performed over the weekend, caused significant concern among clients until the system was restored to normal operation later in the morning.
Meitav Trade, which operates as Israel's largest independent trading platform with approximately 125,500 accounts, has experienced rapid growth recently. This expansion is partly due to investors moving from traditional banks to platforms like Meitav Trade, attracted by lower commission fees. However, this incident follows a series of technical malfunctions that have affected other competing trading firms in Israel this year, including IBI, Psagot, and Blink.
Previous market outages have led to class-action lawsuits from traders alleging damages due to their inability to execute orders. In response to Sunday's event, Meitav Trade quickly clarified that the problem was a display issue only and that no client assets were affected. The company communicated to its clients that while their balances might have appeared as zero due to the glitch, their funds and securities remained intact. The firm apologized for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience.
