Elderly Man Dies After Falling While Building Sukkah in Gush Etzion
An 84-year-old man died after falling from a significant height while constructing a sukkah on the balcony of his home in Efrat, located in the Gush Etzion settlement bloc. The incident occurred on Matityahu Street in the a-Zait neighborhood.
Paramedics from Magen David Adom (MDA) arrived at the scene but were only able to pronounce the man dead. Volunteers from ZAKA, an Israeli emergency response organization, also responded from Efrat and Beitar Illit. Their efforts facilitated the swift transfer of the body for burial.
The sukkah is a temporary hut constructed as a remembrance of the biblical Israelites' dwellings during their 40 years in the desert, and is a central tradition during the week-long Jewish festival of Sukkot.
