Suspect Arrested for Car Theft Ring Near Modi'in Illit
Police in Modi'in Illit have arrested a suspect in his 20s from the Palestinian village of Qibya in connection with a series of car thefts and robberies that occurred on Route 446 over the past two months. The investigation was conducted covertly by the Samaria region's police.
Authorities allege the suspect used two distinct methods to steal vehicles. In one instance, he arranged to meet with Israeli civilians under the pretense of exchanging car parts, then stole their vehicle and fled. In another incident, he staged a car accident, deliberately ramming the victim's car to force it to stop before stealing it.
The suspect was taken into custody for interrogation at the Modi'in Illit police station and has since been jailed. The investigation is ongoing. Police stated they will continue to act decisively against perpetrators of property and vehicle theft offenses.
