Jerusalem Rabbi Sentenced to 18 Years for Sexual and Financial Crimes

The Jerusalem District Court has sentenced Rabbi Moshe Dani Yazdi, leader of the "Amudei HaShalom" community, to 18 years in prison for multiple severe sexual offenses and financial crimes. Yazdi was convicted of exploiting his position and the vulnerability of his followers, including two female complainants, over extended periods. He preached concepts of "nullifying intellect" and "faith in the wise," falsely presenting himself as a hidden righteous man guided by the holy spirit, and claimed his actions were for "spiritual corrections."

In addition to the sexual offenses, Yazdi was found guilty of money laundering, failure to report, operating with illicit assets, and defrauding creditors. He was acquitted of six other charges. The court highlighted Yazdi's exploitation of the complainants' distress and his manipulative conduct during the trial, noting his lack of remorse.

While the court acknowledged Yazdi's charitable acts, it determined they were outweighed by the significant harm he caused. The sentence also includes suspended prison terms and compensation to the victims. The ruling was delivered by a panel of judges led by Presiding Judge Hagit Ma'ak-Kalamonovich, alongside Judges Mordechai Kaduri and Ilan Sala.
