Jerusalem Rabbi Sentenced to 18 Years for Sex Crimes Against Students

The story · English

The Jerusalem District Court has sentenced Rabbi Moshe Yazdi, 63, to 18 years in prison and an additional year suspended sentence for sex offenses and financial crimes committed against his students. The sentencing follows his conviction in March on two counts of sexual offenses and two counts of financial offenses.

Yazdi, who founded and led the "Amudei HaShalom" (Pillars of Peace) association in Jerusalem's Bukharian neighborhood, also served as the community's rabbi and leader. The indictment, filed in 2022, detailed numerous sexual offenses attributed to him against community members who attended his classes.

In addition to the prison sentence, Yazdi has been ordered to pay 150,000 shekels in compensation to each of the victims. The court's decision brings a close to a case that has deeply affected the community.
