James Tavernier Nears Maccabi Tel Aviv Move Amidst Work Permit Delay
Maccabi Tel Aviv is on the verge of officially announcing the signing of James Tavernier, who has already completed his medical examinations and participated in training. The English publication "Daily Record" reports that the primary obstacle to the official announcement is the finalization of his work permit.
Tavernier, 34, is expected to be available for Maccabi Tel Aviv's match against Hapoel Be'er Sheva as early as Monday evening, provided his work permit is secured in time. However, for Tavernier to be eligible to play in official matches, Maccabi Tel Aviv must remove a foreign player from their roster, as the team currently has its full quota of foreign players.
The right-back joins Maccabi Tel Aviv as a free agent after an 11-year tenure with Scottish club Rangers. During his time at Rangers, Tavernier was a significant offensive contributor, scoring 148 goals and providing 141 assists. In his final season, he scored eight goals and assisted four more before announcing his intention to leave the club.
At Maccabi Tel Aviv, Tavernier will reunite with Kenny Miller, a former teammate from Rangers who is now part of the coaching staff for the Israeli State Cup holders.
