James Tavernier Nears Maccabi Tel Aviv Move After Training Session
English defender James Tavernier has completed the final steps toward joining Maccabi Tel Aviv, including a training session on the field at Kiryat Shalom and successfully passing his medical examinations. While he trained separately from the team, his official announcement as a new player is expected imminently.
Tavernier, 34, is set to sign a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. The delay in the official announcement is attributed solely to bureaucratic reasons, with no obstacles preventing the deal's completion. He arrives as a free agent after an 11-year tenure with Scottish club Rangers.
At Maccabi Tel Aviv, Tavernier will reunite with Kenny Miller, his former teammate at Rangers, who is now a coach for the Israeli State Cup holders. Tavernier becomes Maccabi Tel Aviv's fourth summer signing, joining Dan Glazer, Astor Sokoller, and Gabi Kinky. This move follows Roy Revivo's departure from Maccabi Tel Aviv to sign with Elche.
