English defender James Tavernier has completed the final steps toward joining Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to Sport 5. Tavernier, 34, trained on the field at Maccabi's Kiryat Shalom facility on Wednesday, though separately from the main squad. He has successfully passed his medical examinations, and an official announcement of his signing is expected soon.
Tavernier is reportedly set to sign a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. The delay in the official announcement is attributed solely to bureaucratic reasons, with no obstacles preventing the deal's completion. He arrives as a free agent after an 11-year tenure with Scottish club Rangers.
At Maccabi Tel Aviv, Tavernier will reunite with Kenny Miller, his former teammate at Rangers, who is now a coach for the Israeli State Cup holders.
