Israel Won't Leave Lebanon Security Zone Until Hezbollah Disarmed, Says Defense Minister
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will not withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is fully disarmed throughout the country. Katz's remarks followed the IDF's announcement of clearing Hezbollah tunnels in the Al-Tahir mountain range area of southern Lebanon.
He described the capture of the Al-Tahir mountain range as completing the IDF's control over the security zone. Katz recalled previous military actions, including advancing to an anti-tank barrier, taking control of Beaufort, and securing a dominant height to protect communities in Eastern Galilee. The subsequent decision to secure the Al-Tahir range was driven by intelligence indicating extensive Hezbollah underground infrastructure used for command posts and shelters.
"The task was completed in a comprehensive and multifaceted operation, and the tunnels were cleared of terrorists," Katz emphasized. He reiterated that Israel's withdrawal is contingent on the complete disarmament of Hezbollah across Lebanon and the elimination of threats to the residents of Galilee.
