Israel Completes Hezbollah Tunnel Complex Clearance, Prepares for Retaliation

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have concluded their operation to clear a vast underground Hezbollah complex located in the Al-Taher mountain ridge area, a significant strategic asset built over two decades with Iranian backing. The operation, which was kept under a publication ban until its completion, resulted in no Hezbollah operatives remaining alive within the facility. The complex contained command centers, weapons storage, generator rooms, and living quarters, enabling operatives from Hezbollah's "Badr" unit to sustain prolonged operations.

Following the clearance, Israeli security forces are preparing to dismantle the intricate network. Hezbollah, reportedly concerned about the operation and attempting to rebuild its damaged Shiite axis, has appealed to Iran for intervention. Tehran has responded with threats of retaliation should Israel continue its operations in the region, amidst existing US-Iran tensions and economic pressure on the Iranian regime.

Israeli defense officials assess a moderate, though not high, likelihood of limited escalation or intense fighting along the northern border. The IDF is maintaining a high state of alert and is coordinating closely with the United States. Following the demolition of the underground infrastructure, the IDF plans to redeploy its defensive array along the "yellow line," with the final positioning determined by ongoing situation assessments.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the operation, stating, "This ridge, which Hezbollah always tried to take from us, we eliminated many terrorists there, today we can tell. Al-Taher ridge no longer threatens us." The IDF stated that the operation has neutralized the ability to carry out terror plots against Israeli civilians and forces from these specific underground routes, which have been continuously used by Hezbollah operatives during recent conflicts.
