Israeli Military Claims Operational Control Over Southern Lebanon's Ali Al-Taher Heights

The Israeli military announced on Thursday evening that it has completed what it described as the "cleansing" of the Ali Al-Taher heights region in southern Lebanon, asserting "operational control" over the area both above and below ground. The operation targeted what the IDF stated were Hezbollah's underground infrastructure, including operational rooms, weapons storage, power generators, living quarters, and bathing facilities, which it claimed allowed for extended stays and operational management.

The IDF stated that forces from the 36th Division had been operating for weeks on two underground routes in the Ali Al-Taher heights, within what it termed a "security zone." The military claimed to have neutralized discovered infrastructure and killed a number of Hezbollah operatives, while others fled the area. The IDF described the underground facilities as strategic infrastructure built over approximately two decades with Iranian funding and planning.

The Israeli military indicated that work to neutralize the discovered infrastructure is ongoing and that forces will redeploy defensively after the activity concludes, based on field assessments. It also warned that any Hezbollah activity against Israeli forces would be met with a strong response, while reaffirming its commitment to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.

This announcement coincides with reports from Reuters on Thursday, citing three officials, that Iran sent a message to the United States via Oman last month warning of a strong response to any Israeli attack on the Ali Al-Taher heights. Tehran reportedly sought to convey a clear stance on any potential Israeli actions in the area, given the broader confrontation between Iran and Israel.
