IDF Completes Hezbollah Tunnel Clearing Operation in Southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has concluded a significant operation to clear and neutralize Hezbollah's underground infrastructure in the Al-Tahir mountain range, located in the security zone of southern Lebanon. Over recent weeks, soldiers from the IDF's 36th Division conducted the large-scale operation, establishing operational control over the area both above and below ground.

According to a September 3, 2026, statement from the IDF's press service, the army cleared the territory of terrorists, eliminating some while others managed to escape. Work is ongoing to destroy the discovered underground facilities. Following the completion of these measures, the IDF will adjust its troop deployments and defensive posture based on the current operational situation.

The subterranean network, which had been under construction for over two decades with financial and strategic support from Iran, contained command centers, weapons storage, generators, living quarters, and kitchens, enabling prolonged underground stays for militants. The IDF emphasized that this infrastructure was used for planning and executing attacks against Israeli territory and soldiers.

The IDF stated its continued operations in southern Lebanon aim to thwart any threats from Hezbollah. While committed to the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, the IDF warned that any attack attempt would be met with a severe response.
