Freedom Flotilla Coalition Plans New Gaza Aid Mission for October

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has announced plans for a new maritime mission to Gaza, scheduled to depart in October 2026. According to The Cradle, the vessels will set sail from European ports, making stops in Spain, Portugal, and Italy before traversing the Mediterranean Sea.

This upcoming attempt marks the FFC's first since May 2026, when Israeli forces intercepted approximately 50 vessels in international waters, detaining 430 activists, including medical professionals and journalists. The detentions sparked international outcry, with released participants alleging mistreatment in Israeli prisons.

In response to the May incident, activists have continued their campaign across Europe, organizing sailings to raise funds and public awareness for the planned autumn voyage. The organizers stated the mission aims to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and call for the lifting of the maritime blockade.

Preparations for the mission have included visits by FFC vessels, such as the Handala II and Kate, to ports in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, and France. The coalition has not yet specified the exact departure dates for the main convoy or the total amount of humanitarian aid to be transported.

Israeli officials have consistently maintained the legality of the maritime blockade, asserting its necessity to prevent weapons from reaching terrorist groups. They have characterized such flotilla actions as provocations.
