Israel to Lower Fuel Prices by 50 Agorot Following Legal Approval
Fuel prices in Israel are set to decrease by 50 agorot per liter starting Monday, September 7th. This reduction comes after the government's legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara, granted approval for a temporary excise tax cut on gasoline during the election period. The Ministry of Finance announced that the new price will be 7.75 shekels per liter for self-service pumps.
This move by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich follows a significant price hike earlier in September, which pushed gasoline to a record high of 8.25 shekels per liter. The previous surge was attributed to rising global oil prices, exacerbated by damage to refining facilities in Russia and the Middle East.
The legal advisor's consent was necessary due to the ongoing election campaign. A similar approval for a tax reduction was granted to former Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman during the last election cycle.
