Beitar Jerusalem will find out on Wednesday where its European campaign begins, when it enters the draw for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. The competition, Europe’s third-tier club tournament, will play its second-round matches on July 23 and July 30.
Because Beitar is unseeded, it faces a difficult draw. The most high-profile possible opponent is Ajax, featuring Oscar Gloukh, which secured a place in Europe by advancing through the Dutch league playoffs. Other strong possible opponents include Braga, Panathinaikos and Partizan Belgrade. In total, there are 43 possible opponents before the field is narrowed, with some drawn from first-round winners.
Beitar, the capital club, skips the first qualifying round and begins in the second. To reach the Conference League group stage, it must survive three rounds in all, two qualifying rounds and a playoff round.
The second qualifying-round draw will take place on June 17. Beitar’s first leg is scheduled for July 23, with the return leg a week later on July 30. The qualifying phase ends on August 27 with the playoff return leg.
