Hapoel Tel Aviv awaits Conference League draw and possible first-round opponents
Hapoel Tel Aviv will enter the UEFA Conference League draw on Wednesday, as the club prepares for a return to European competition for the first time in 12 years. The Reds will start in the second qualifying round and are unseeded.
UEFA is due to release the draw pots within the next day, but the current list of possible opponents already includes several prominent teams with European pedigree. Among the options are Ajax, which features Oscar Gloukh, Steaua Bucharest, which has Ofri Arad, and AEK Larnaca, where Yehav Gorpeinkel is wanted by Hapoel.
Other possible opponents mentioned are Braga of Portugal, FC Copenhagen of Denmark, Gent of Belgium, Rapid Vienna of Austria, Panathinaikos of Greece and Basaksehir of Turkey. The first match in the second qualifying round is scheduled for July 23.
If Hapoel advances, the playoff round is set to begin on August 20. The article says the picture will become clearer over the next day as UEFA completes the draw reductions.
