Suspect Arrested in Jaffa Shooting Death of 22-Year-Old

Israeli police have arrested a 22-year-old resident of Jaffa in connection with the August 30 shooting death of 20-year-old Mohammed Rafat Ahmed Katwan. Katwan was shot and killed while sitting in a car with another man in a side street in Jaffa. Police suspect the shooting was a planned ambush, with a motorcyclist waiting for the victims, firing into their vehicle, and then fleeing the scene.

Katwan sustained critical injuries and was transported to Wolfson Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The second man in the car was seriously injured. Another suspect, who was in the car with the victims, was arrested near the scene shortly after the incident.

The investigation, led by the Tel Aviv District's Central Unit, utilized significant resources to identify the suspect. A search of the suspect's residence yielded a Zig Sauer pistol with a magazine and ammunition. The suspect was taken for interrogation, and police are expected to request an extension of his detention at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court.

Tel Aviv District Commander Chaim Srugov and Ayalon Region Commander Dani Haddad visited the scene shortly after the shooting to assess the situation.
