Israeli Defense Tech Firm AITAN Raises $41 Million for Robotic Warfare Solutions

Israeli defense technology company AITAN, formerly known as eyesAtop, announced it has successfully closed a $41 million funding round led by Deep33 and Dell Technologies Capital. This brings the company's total funding to $54 million. The capital infusion is earmarked for expanding international operations, developing advanced command and control platforms, and increasing its global workforce.

AITAN's core offering is marketed as "Robotic Sovereignty-as-a-Service," addressing the evolving demands of modern warfare, particularly evident in conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Ukraine. Unlike traditional, durable military hardware, current battlefields see robotic systems, such as drones, functioning as nearly disposable assets. The rapid pace of conflict necessitates weekly updates to software and AI due to electronic warfare and enemy tactical shifts. AITAN's system aims to provide operational independence, reducing reliance on vulnerable supply chains and enabling rapid adaptation of AI models to mission requirements.

The company's model aligns with global defense technology trends. In the U.S., Anduril and Shield AI are key players in integrating autonomous systems, while Germany's Helsing focuses on real-time data processing for existing military platforms. The rise of Chinese manufacturing for drone components highlights the shift of Western advantage to software, algorithms, and the ability to operate coordinated robotic swarms independently of external networks.

This funding round follows a period of significant growth and operational deployment for AITAN. The company's systems have accumulated over half a million operational flight hours with the IDF and Ministry of Defense. AITAN recently won a tender to develop the IDF's next-generation attack drone command and control system and has secured other significant contracts for robotic combat systems. For international investors, Israel and Ukraine are seen as leading testbeds for this type of warfare, with the translation of operational knowledge into exportable software driving high valuations in the defense tech sector.

The company was founded by Udi Oster and Daniel Almog, former officers from Unit 8200, who previously had a successful exit with their company Tapingo. The founders' motivations were deeply impacted by the October 7th attacks, with close friends and family affected. The company is named after Oster's younger brother, Captain Eitan Oster, who fell in battle in Southern Lebanon in September 2024. AITAN's systems are designed for interoperability, working with products from various manufacturers, including DJI drones and specialized explosive UAVs. Future plans include navigating regulatory hurdles for exporting autonomous combat algorithms to NATO countries and exploring integration into naval and ground defense networks.
