Rangers Legend James Tavernier Officially Signs with Maccabi Tel Aviv

Scottish football icon James Tavernier has officially signed with Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv on a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. The 34-year-old English right-back arrived in Israel overnight and successfully passed his medical examinations.

Tavernier joins Maccabi Tel Aviv as a free agent, becoming the team's fourth signing of the summer. He brings a distinguished career from Glasgow Rangers, where he spent 11 years and became a club legend. Known for his attacking prowess, free-kick, and penalty-taking skills, Tavernier recorded remarkable statistics for a defender, scoring 144 goals and providing 148 assists in 565 appearances for Rangers.

At Maccabi Tel Aviv, Tavernier will reunite with manager Kenny Miller, who was his teammate at Rangers between 2015 and 2018. Despite attracting interest from major European clubs such as Newcastle, Lille, and West Ham during the recent summer transfer window, Tavernier opted to join the Israeli side.

This acquisition is considered a significant and exciting move for Maccabi Tel Aviv, the current holder of the Israeli State Cup, as they aim to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season.
