Shin Bet Arrests Hamas Interior Security Chief in Gaza City

Special forces from the Shin Bet, Israel's internal security agency, arrested a senior Hamas official responsible for internal security in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. The operation, conducted jointly with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), took place in Gaza City.

The arrested official was transferred to Israel for further interrogation. According to a joint statement from the IDF and Shin Bet, the operation was led by the Shin Bet and the IDF's Southern Command and aimed to neutralize Hamas threats in the northern Gaza Strip.

During the operation, special forces raided a building in Gaza City where the official was located and apprehended him. Concurrently, the Israeli Air Force conducted targeted strikes on several military targets in the area to counter threats against the forces operating on the ground. The IDF reported no casualties among its personnel.

The Shin Bet and IDF stated that the arrested official had recently been working to consolidate Hamas's control in northern Gaza and to advance terror plans against IDF forces operating near the border fence. Following his arrest, he was brought to Israel for continued investigation by security forces.

A statement from the security forces indicated that the operation was designed to remove threats, disrupt Hamas's control in the area, and thwart its plans for terror actions against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. Forces from the Southern Command are deployed in the area and will continue to operate to neutralize any threats.
