Dudu Bar-Lev to Command IDF Central Command in 2027

The Israel Defense Forces announced Monday that Major General Dudu Bar-Lev will succeed Major General Avi Blot as the commander of the Central Command starting in 2027. Defense Minister Israel Katz approved the recommendation from IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.

This decision follows a controversial announcement by Katz earlier this month, where he declared Blot's replacement live on air during a television program. News outlets had previously reported that the IDF was considering promoting Blot to head Military Intelligence, citing his extensive operational experience and understanding of the ground situation.

Following the public announcement of Blot's removal, Chief of Staff Zamir reportedly assured Blot of his full support and stated that Blot was doing excellent work in reducing terrorism in the territories and would remain in his post until 2027. A senior officer criticized the method of the announcement, stating that a major general should not be dismissed on television to audience applause, calling it inappropriate.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was reportedly angered by Katz's actions and demanded clarification, calling the conduct "disgraceful" in private conversations. Katz later stated that Major General Avi Blot had not been dismissed and was fulfilling his role well, with no dispute between them.
