Israeli Student Finds Cockroach in Packaged Salad, Suffers Illness

A 19-year-old student from Netanya, identified as Ori, experienced a distressing incident after discovering a cockroach in a packaged eggplant salad. While eating the salad, purchased from the brand "Marrakesh" by "Salatei Shamir," Ori felt an unusual texture in his mouth. Upon spitting it out, he realized he had chewed and partially swallowed a cockroach.

Following the discovery, the student suffered severe stomach pains and vomiting. He subsequently contacted the customer service of "Salatei Shamir," the supermarket where the product was bought, and the Ministry of Health, demanding an investigation into the incident.

"Salatei Shamir" expressed regret over the event, asserting that their factory adheres to strict ISO and FSSC food safety standards. The company stated that regular microbiological checks and bi-weekly pest control programs are in place. A specific production batch of the salad was examined, and no other complaints were found regarding that batch.

The company also reported that they have been in contact with Ori and have agreed to provide him with compensation. This incident follows a previous report of a significant cockroach infestation in Israel.
