Water Outage Halts Classes for Thousands in Southern Israel
Classes were canceled on Wednesday in the southern Israeli towns of Shagav Shalom and Tel Sheva, affecting thousands of students and kindergarten children, due to a water supply disruption. The outage began Tuesday and lasted until 6 a.m. Wednesday, with water returning without sufficient pressure.
"Since yesterday there were no running water until six in the morning today. We have thousands of students, including from the Bedouin diaspora, and only today at six in the morning did the water return without pressure," said Kiak Abu Amer, head of the Shagav Shalom council, to Walla.
Abu Amer explained his decision to cancel classes was based on hygiene concerns for the children, expressing hope for a swift resolution. In parallel, classes were also canceled in Tel Sheva due to the same issue. Additionally, students in some schools within the Naveh Midbar Regional Council were dismissed early.
