New Omoda 4 Hybrid SUV to Launch in Israel Ahead of Global Release

Israel is set to be the first market to receive the new Omoda 4 hybrid SUV, signaling a significant push by Chinese automakers into the family crossover segment. The Omoda 4, sharing components with the Jaecoo 5 and Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, aims to challenge the dominance of established models like the Toyota Yaris Cross, which has seen its market share eroded by Chinese brands.

The Omoda 4 boasts a distinctive 'Cyber Mecha' design language, inspired by gaming aesthetics and featuring sharp lines, LED lighting, and a front end reminiscent of the Lamborghini Urus, earning it the nickname 'Baby Lamborghini.' Its dimensions, measuring 4.42 meters long, 1.86 meters wide, and 1.57 meters high with a 2.70-meter wheelbase, position it squarely in the competitive family crossover market.

Inside, the cabin features a sporty steering wheel, a Lamborghini-style ignition button, and a dual-screen setup including a 13.2-inch vertical multimedia display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Despite the lack of physical climate and audio controls, a persistent touch-button strip remains at the bottom of the screen. The vehicle comes well-equipped with synthetic leather seats, dual-zone climate control, a power tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof.

While some global markets will receive a gasoline version, Israel will exclusively get a hybrid model. This powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (143 hp) with a 204 hp electric motor, delivering a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 179 km/h. A small 1.83 kWh battery is included to facilitate short electric-only driving and improve fuel efficiency, with a claimed consumption of approximately 20 km per liter.

The Omoda 4 is slated for an end-of-year release in Israel, with an estimated price between 155,000 and 165,000 shekels, similar to the Jaecoo 5 hybrid. This pricing is before updated 'green taxation' is applied, which could add an additional 8,000-10,000 shekels. The Omoda brand has struggled to match the sales success of other Chery group models like the Jaecoo 5, 7, and 8, making the Omoda 4 crucial for the brand's establishment in Israel and contributing to the growing market share of Chinese vehicles.
