Maccabi Tel Aviv Hopes to Finalize Roman Sorkin's New Contract Amidst Disappointment

Maccabi Tel Aviv is currently holding a closed training camp in Caesarea, with TJ Clark, brother of Jimmy Clark, joining to fill in for absent players. National team players Daniel Theis, Jalen Hurd, and Roman Sorkin, who recently finished playing with the Israeli national team, are expected to join the camp later this week.

Sorkin expressed disappointment in a recent interview, stating that the new contract offered by Maccabi Tel Aviv is "not relevant" and that he will continue playing under his current contract for another three years. The club had previously offered Sorkin a three-year deal worth $1.2 million, an increase from his current $900,000 salary, but the offer was rejected. Sources close to Sorkin suggest that only an offer exceeding $1.5 million would be accepted.

Those around Sorkin highlighted his contributions to the team's domestic titles and pointed to the significantly higher salary of new player Yam Madar as a point of comparison. They expected Maccabi Tel Aviv to present a more competitive offer to address this disparity, but felt the current proposal did not substantially improve his situation.

Despite Sorkin's statements, some within Maccabi Tel Aviv believe negotiations are ongoing. A senior club official expressed confidence that the team would not allow a valued player like Sorkin to start the season with unresolved contract issues, hoping to finalize the deal before the season begins.
