Trade Talks Emerge Between Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv Over Key Players

Israeli football clubs Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv are engaged in preliminary trade discussions involving key players and a significant financial component. Maccabi Tel Aviv is interested in acquiring 22-year-old midfielder Adi Yona from Beitar Jerusalem, while Beitar is considering receiving Ori Azou and another player in return, along with a substantial monetary compensation.

Beitar Jerusalem is reportedly demanding around 1.8 million euros as part of the deal, a figure Maccabi Tel Aviv currently finds too high. However, the financial demands might decrease if an additional player is included in the trade, depending on that player's identity. These talks mark a rare potential trade between two of Israeli football's biggest clubs.

Ori Azou, who started his youth career at Maccabi Haifa and has experience with Maccabi Petah Tikva's youth team, was loaned to Hapoel Ramat Hasharon in 2024, where he scored nine goals in 19 appearances. He then moved to M.S. Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League, accumulating 26 top-flight appearances with four goals and four assists, despite missing significant time due to injury.

Adi Yona, who has represented Israel at the Olympics, was a key player for Beitar Jerusalem last season under coach Barak Itzhaki. Unfortunately, he has been sidelined since March due to a stress fracture in his metatarsal bone. Yona has made 133 appearances for Beitar, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions.

The negotiations are ongoing with no agreement reached yet, and the final outcome will depend on the clubs' willingness to adjust financial and player terms.
