Trade Talks Underway Between Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv Involving Key Players

Israeli football clubs Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv are engaged in preliminary discussions about a potential player trade, a development not seen between the two teams for many years. Central to the talks is Maccabi Tel Aviv's interest in acquiring 22-year-old midfielder Adi Yona from Beitar Jerusalem. In exchange, Beitar Jerusalem may receive player Uri Azou, another player, and a significant financial compensation.

Currently, Beitar Jerusalem is demanding around 1.8 million euros from Maccabi Tel Aviv as part of the deal. However, Maccabi Tel Aviv is reluctant to meet this valuation. Sources suggest that the inclusion of an additional player in the trade could reduce the monetary compensation required. The negotiations are ongoing, with no agreement reached yet.

Uri Azou, who started his youth career at Maccabi Haifa and moved between several clubs including Maccabi Petah Tikva, was loaned to Hapoel Ramat HaSharon in 2024 where he scored 9 goals in 19 appearances. He later joined M.S. Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League, accumulating 26 league appearances, 4 goals, and 4 assists despite a significant injury setback.

Adi Yona has an impressive record for his age, having played 133 matches for Beitar Jerusalem across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists. He also represented Israel at the Olympics. Last season, he was a key player for Beitar under coach Barak Itzhaki until a March injury sidelined him with a stress fracture in his metatarsal bone.

The potential trade marks a rare and significant negotiation between two of Israeli football's biggest clubs, with both sides weighing player value and financial terms as talks continue.
