Syrian Druze Leader Declares Community Part of Israel Amid Regional Tensions

Sheikh Hakmat al-Hijri, the leader of the Druze community in Syria, stated on Tuesday that the Druze in Syria consider themselves an integral part of Israel and its partners. His remarks followed a protest in southern Syria where Druze residents marched through the streets of As-Suwayda carrying Israeli flags. Al-Hijri emphasized the historical and spiritual connection between the Druze community and Israel, saying, "We are an inseparable part of the State of Israel. Even in faith, we are partners with this country, the State of Israel." He stressed the importance of maintaining this perspective and supporting the state.

Al-Hijri also acknowledged the right of nations to build defenses and expressed hope that other regional countries would follow Israel's example in state-building. He highlighted the role of Western countries, including Europeans and Americans, in these efforts, "of course through the State of Israel." He called for new developments in the coming days, expressing anticipation for positive change.

Regarding regional stability, al-Hijri expressed the Druze community's desire for peace, particularly focusing on the Bashan region's stability. He described Bashan as potentially the cornerstone for broader regional stability, stating that once Bashan achieves full sovereignty and self-determination, it could serve as a foundation for peace across the region.
