Man Charged With Murder of Lawyer Over Insurance Dispute in Central Israel

The Central District Prosecutor's Office filed a murder indictment on Wednesday against 24-year-old Ahmad Alargob from Ramla for the intentional killing of lawyer Arbel Feldman. The indictment also includes charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, evidence destruction, and obstruction of justice. The motive, according to prosecutors, stemmed from a dispute over an insurance claim of 18,500 shekels, which Feldman represented Alargob on. Alargob grew frustrated with the slow progress and delayed payment, eventually threatening his lawyer during a recorded phone call on July 20, 2024.

Feldman, who specialized in civil law and property damage claims, had represented Alargob following a car accident involving his father's vehicle. Despite a settlement agreement reached by late July, Alargob's impatience escalated. On August 4, 2024, around 1 p.m., Alargob arrived at Feldman's office in Rishon Lezion armed with a semi-automatic 9mm pistol. He entered the office, approached Feldman, and fired six shots at close range, striking him in the upper body, head, and hand. Feldman died instantly from blood loss. The entire shooting lasted just 21 seconds, as documented by security cameras.

After the shooting, Alargob fled the scene, discarded his phone and weapon en route to prevent evidence collection, and later surrendered himself at a police station in Ashdod. He confessed to the murder, citing financial motives. Forensic analysis found about 100 gunshot residue particles on Alargob's hands and hair, confirming involvement with a single firearm. Despite multiple interrogations, Alargob has remained silent. Prosecutors emphasized the calculated nature of the crime, highlighting the danger of attacking a lawyer performing his professional duties.

The prosecution requested Alargob's detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing the severity and premeditation of the murder, the public interest in protecting legal professionals, and the risk of evidence tampering. Feldman's colleague witnessed the suspect fleeing and immediately alerted emergency services. The case underscores the risks lawyers face when representing clients in contentious financial disputes.
