Israel Seeks 100,000 Poll Workers for October 27 Knesset Elections with Pay up to 3,000 Shekels

The story · English

Ahead of Israel's Knesset elections on October 27, the Central Elections Committee is recruiting approximately 100,000 workers to manage, supervise, and ensure the integrity of the voting process. Salaries range from 1,300 to 3,000 shekels per election day, with a special tax rate of 18% applied to earnings. A record 195,000 Israelis have applied in the past 10 days for roles as polling station secretaries, doubling the number from the previous election cycle. However, registration does not guarantee placement, as candidates must pass screening, interviews, and training.

The key role is the polling station secretary, responsible for overseeing the voting process, managing the committee, ensuring compliance with election laws, and maintaining vote secrecy. About 35,000 secretaries will be selected after passing tests and interviews, earning around 3,000 shekels per day. Their work begins at 6:00 a.m. and continues until vote counting and equipment handover are complete, often late into the night.

Other positions include election integrity supervisors, with 14,000 expected to be hired at 2,200 shekels per day. These supervisors monitor polling stations to prevent fraud, document irregularities, and may use body cameras if needed. Polling station orderlies will manage voter queues and maintain order, earning about 1,300 shekels. Facility managers, often school or community center staff, will ensure the polling site’s infrastructure functions properly, also earning approximately 1,300 shekels.

The recruitment process for election integrity supervisors opens on August 19. All roles require passing screening, training, and certification. These positions are critical to ensuring a transparent, orderly, and lawful election day.
