Israel Katz appoints Druze brigadier general Hisham Ibrahim as military secretary

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Sunday that Brig. Gen. Hisham Ibrahim will become his military secretary, effective immediately. Ibrahim, who is Druze, currently heads the Civil Administration in Judea and Samaria, and his new post places a senior Druze officer in a central Defense Ministry role.

Ibrahim has served for many years in senior command positions across the IDF armor corps and Central Command. His previous roles include chief armored corps officer, commander of the 460th Armored Brigade, commander of the 205th Armored Brigade, and deputy commander of Division 91.

As head of the Civil Administration, Ibrahim is responsible for civilian coordination with the Palestinian population in Judea and Samaria, a job that requires complex management skills and political sensitivity. Katz said he was certain Ibrahim would succeed in the “important role” during a “challenging and significant” security period for Israel.

According to the announcement, Katz informed the IDF chief of staff about the appointment, and Ibrahim will begin without a transition period. The military secretary serves as a key link between the political leadership and the army, coordinating day-to-day work between the Defense Ministry and the IDF, attending staff meetings and preparing background material for decision-makers.
