The story · English

Defense Minister Israel Katz has appointed Brig. Gen. Hisham Ibrahim, currently head of the Civil Administration, as his military secretary, and Ibrahim will take up the post immediately. The appointment was approved after Katz interviewed him and on the recommendation of IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir.

Ibrahim, a member of the Druze community, has held a series of senior command positions in the army, including chief armor officer, commander of the 460th and 205th Brigades, and deputy commander of the 91st Division. Katz also interviewed Brig. Gen. Yair Palai, commander of the 210th Division, and Brig. Gen. Guy Levy, commander of the 98th Division, for the role.

Katz congratulated Ibrahim and said he was confident he would succeed in what he described as a significant and challenging security period for Israel. Ibrahim will join the defense minister’s inner team and be responsible for ongoing coordination between the defense establishment, the IDF and the minister’s office.

He will replace Maj. Gen. Guy Markizano, who was appointed last week as military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Roman Gofman was chosen to head the Mossad. Markizano previously commanded Battalion 405, an artillery formation, the 209th Fire Brigade and the 215th Fire Brigade, and later served as head of planning in the Ground Forces and chief of staff of Northern Command. His recent role as Katz’s military secretary allowed him to move quickly into the prime minister’s office.
