The story · English

Eli Segev, a former owner of the Israeli football club Maccabi Netanya, passed away at age 73 due to medical complications in Johannesburg, South Africa. Segev co-owned the club during the 2013/14 season alongside businessman Yossi Maor. Under his leadership, Maccabi Netanya was promoted from the second division to the top tier. However, he left the club near the end of 2014 amid various challenges, including fan dissatisfaction with then-coach Yossi Mizrahi.

In recent years, Segev resided in South Africa, where he managed several personal business ventures. According to family sources, he suffered a stroke last Tuesday and was hospitalized in Johannesburg, placed on a ventilator. After several medical complications, his death was confirmed on Saturday. His family is currently arranging to bring his body back to Israel for burial.

Maccabi Netanya issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over Segev's passing, recognizing him as a significant figure during a dynamic and memorable period in the club's history. The club's community, including management, staff, players, and fans, extended condolences to his family during this difficult time, honoring his memory.
