Itaï Segev Set to Play in Derby After His Father's Death
The Israeli Basketball Premier League finals between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv open tonight, Tuesday at 8:50 p.m., with Maccabi hosting Hapoel at Yad Eliyahu. Despite a personal tragedy, Hapoel center Itai Segev is expected to take part in the game.
Segev’s father died on Monday night. Even so, the club backed the player and spoke with him before submitting the roster for the final, which led to his inclusion. Segev himself asked the coaching staff to let him play.
According to the report, Segev’s father accompanied him throughout his career and the two were extremely close. The Sports Channel expressed condolences to Segev and his family. The finals series is being broadcast live on 5SPORT.
