Iti Segev is expected to play in the derby finale after his father’s death
The Israeli Basketball Premier League playoff final between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv opens tonight, Tuesday at 8:50 p.m., with Maccabi hosting at Yad Eliyahu. Despite a personal tragedy, Hapoel center Iti Segev is expected to be available for the game.
Segev’s father died on Monday night. Hapoel supported the player and spoke with him before submitting the final roster for the championship series, after Segev asked the coaching staff to be allowed to take part in the match. That request led to his registration for the game.
The article says Segev’s father accompanied him throughout his career and that the two were very close. Sport 5 also expressed condolences to Segev and his family.
The final series is set to begin with Maccabi Tel Aviv as the home team, in the first game of the best-of-series showdown for the league title.
